A day of non-stop rain. The best part of 3" (75mm) fell in this 24hr period. The next day was similar but not quite so heavy only delivering another 1.5" (37mm), bringing the 48 hour total to 4.5" (110mm).
This rain was fairly widespread and produced the worst floods, in some areas, for 50 or 100 years depending on who you listen to. Areas around York and York itself were badly affected.
